Rita A. Finnerty, 93, of Pittston, passed away at home August 17, 2022.
Born in Pittston on September 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Madeline McLarney Munley.
She was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School. Rita’s family was always the centerpiece of her life. She was dedicated to providing life instruction, guidance and above all, love to one and all. During her beloved husband’s long battle with cancer, she took on the roles of nurse, caregiver, and spiritual coach. Her life was led by a firm sense of purpose, beguiling humor and a compassionate spirit. Her infirmities in later life inhibited her full participation in public liturgies, however, her devotion to St. Therese, the Little Flower remained strong and meaningful. She prayed many novenas to the Saint not for herself, but for those who might need a spiritual, physical, or emotional boost. For herself, she extended only gratitude for her many blessings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Finnerty; sons, Robert and Michael Finnerty; granddaughter, Dena Marie Finnerty; sister, Joan Munley and son-in-law, Stanley Kabacinski.
Surviving are children, Tom Finnerty (Mary), Camp Hill; Mary Claire Kabacinski, Lancaster; Patrick Finnerty (Beth) Brigantine, NJ; Maureen Roman (Frank), Pittston with whom she resided. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Linda Finnerty, Old Forge; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
