Ruth Rajgopaul

Ruth Rajgopaul passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the age of 74 at her home in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Albion, Berbice, Guyana on March 29, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Rengen and Sewranie Gopaul. Ruth worked as a Dietary Service worker for Bronx Lebanon Hospital for over 30 years until her retirement in 2016. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Stanley, Alvin, and Michael and sisters Jean and Naomi.

Prior to her retirement from Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Ruth cultivated a second family through her dedication to her team within the dietary section of the hospital where she was known to many doctors, nurses and staff as “Ruthie Girl”. While she strived for perfection with the dietary service team, Ruth also strived to help those throughout the hospital. Upon her retirement, she would spend her time teaching her great nieces and nephews the importance of hard work and dedication.

When not working at the hospital, Ruth could be found at Saint Matthews Roman Catholic Church on Saturday at 5PM with many of her neighbors. She and her neighbors had a love for lottery tickets and

were always taking trips to the local 7-Eleven in hopes of purchasing the winning ticket. Ruth equally loved giving her nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews scratch off tickets for any occasion. All of these things brought her almost as much joy as her summer vacations in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Ruth looked forward to the annual summer trip with her family because it meant she got to spend time soaking up the sun and creating new laughs and memories with her beloved family. Her zest for life will be carried on by her family, which is exactly what she would want.

Ruth is survived by her sister Esther Brassington and brother Oswald Gopaul and wife Maritza; nephew Richard and wife Leanne with children Sarah Ann and Dominic; nephew Winston and wife Alana with children Alexander, Stephanie, and Maria; nephew Peter and wife Kirsten with son Christian; nephew William and wife Anne with children Liam and Logan; nephew Patrick with children Kevin and Kelly; nephew Jonathan and wife Linda with children Luke and Cole; niece June Anne; niece Rachel with daughter Émilie; niece Noraima and husband Melik with son Daniel; nephew Oswaldo and wife Alba with children Luciany and Gregory; nephew Alan; niece Sharda and husband Stef with children Dylan, Ryan, and Suraida; niece Oesha and husband Naresh with daughter Danisha; niece Rekha and husband Maurice with children Karuna and Romir; and many other relatives across the world.
