Sandy Joseph Benfante, 73, of Harding passed away peacefully Sunday, November 30th surrounded by loving family. Sandy was born August 3, 1952 in Pittston. He was a graduate of Pittston Area high school. After high school Sandy pursued a career in construction, which successfully spanned 35 years. In his early life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities. In Sandy‘s golden years, he faced many disabilities, but he did not let them keep him from making the best out of every single day.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Leo Benfante, mother Grace DeDuonni Benfante, father-in-law Elmer DeLucca, mother-in-law, Pauline Costanzo DeLucca, and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carol DeLucca Benfante of Harding, daughter Melissa Love of Dallas, son Leonard Benfante and wife Jennifer of Pittston, granddaughter Maddie Burdett of Dallas, brother Leonard Benfante and wife Carol of Pittston, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. We cannot forget his furry little girl and best buddy Zoe.
Sandy’s family was his everything. He was a wonderful husband, amazing father, and doting grandfather. His granddaughter Maddie was his pride and joy. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Allied Hospice Services for the excellent care they provided for Sandy throughout his illness. The family would like to extend special thanks to Christie Slagus, dear friend, neighbor, and hospice nurse who was with him and the family in his final hours. She is truly an angel.
Sandy you are gone but not forgotten. We will carry you in our hearts and cherish the memories of you forever. We love you. You are at peace now.
In accordance with Sandy’s wishes funeral services are private at this time.
A celebration of his life and a memorial mass will be held Saturday January 10, 2026 at 10AM in Corpus Christi Parish, St. Anthony’s Church, 28 Memorial St, Exeter, 18643, PA. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9AM until the time of mass.
