Sheila Ann McGarry, 63, of Pittston, passed away Saturday, December 30,
2023, at home.
Born in Pittston on July 9, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Francis L.
and Mary Eugenia (Jean) McGarry. She was a graduate of Seton Catholic
High School, class of 1978, and then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree
from Misericordia University.
Early in her career, Sheila worked as a long-term substitute teacher for
Pittston Area School District, and then worked for several years at The
Sunday Dispatch. For the past 23 years, she was employed by Pittston City
as an accounting clerk and made many life-long friends while serving her
community. Sheila also cherished the friendships she developed with her
coworkers at Macy’s and Gerrity’s.
An avid sports fan, Sheila loved cheering for her Philadelphia Eagles and
Phillies, as well as supporting the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins at their
home games. She enjoyed cooking, reading by her pool, attending concerts,
and spending quality time with her family and close friends. She also
treasured the time she spent at home with her dogs, Brutus and Phoebe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Linda
Tully and Susan McGarry Hannon.
Surviving are her sister, Lynne Shatinsky and her husband, Charlie,
Cranford, NJ; nephews, Charles Tully, Pittston; C.J. and Ryan Shatinsky,
Charleston, SC; niece, Kathleen Shatinsky, Chicago, IL; and beloved family
members Kayla, Marianne, and Steven Graffam.
The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, January 5, 2024, from
4pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 6, 2024, at
9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those
attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sheila’s honor to
the Care and Concern Ministries, 35 William Street, Pittston.
We were heartbroken to hear of Shelia's passing. She was a local treasure who will be missed by many.

So very sorry to read this, Shelia was a longtime friend, through our political lives. She was awesome to work with, a great lady! But knowing she was recently suffering, she is now at peace. Rest easy my dear friend.
