Shirley Jane Chairge

Shirley Jane Chairge, 87, of West Pittston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, November 17, 2023, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Pittston on February 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Evelyn Dominick Bernardi.


She was a graduate of Pittston High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was the owner of the Village Craft Shop, West Pittston where she held Grandmother’s Attic Treasures – an etiquette and craft school for girls. Prior to retirement, she was a realtor with Lewith & Freeman Real Estate.


To know Shirley was to love her. If you walked into room where she was you’d be sure to be find her warm welcoming smile either sewing a beautiful quilt, painting a picture or simply reading a book she couldn’t wait to tell you about. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Carlene Chairge.


Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Samuel J. Chairge, Sr.; children, Sam Chairge and his wife Rosemary, Bear Creek Township; Lisa Yurek and her husband Frank, Wyoming; Suzanne Saville and her husband Michael, FL; and Anthony Chairge and his wife Kim, Bear Creek Township; grandchildren, Deanna Appleton (Richard); Tyler Saville (Nia); Ashlee Yurek; Jordan Saville (Danielle); Kara Kohler (Arthur); Samantha Slater (Brandon) and Frank Yurek, III; 13 beloved great-grandchildren whom she adored; brother, Harry Bernardi and his wife Cathy, Dallas; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. We would like to thank the two special caretakers that took such good care of our dear Shirley. Kim Chairge & Patrice Yurek.


The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 8:15am to 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30am.Interment, West Pittston Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
