Shirley Simonson Bone

Shirley Simonson Bone, of Carpenter Street, West Pittston, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

She was born on July 4, 1934 to Grover and Mary Simonson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late George W. Bone, Jr.

‘Shirl the girl’ was a graduate of Pittston High School where she was an accomplished drum majorette.  She went on to Pittston Hospital School of Nursing.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

Shirley, in line with her birth date, was the definition of independence, duty, determination, hard work and resilience.  She celebrated her 90th birthday in July surrounded by loved ones where she twirled her final baton with so much joy!

She is survived by her three daughters, Lynne (Charles) Manganiello, Leslie Bone, and Laurie (James) Makowski; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren who will miss ‘Nana’ and her famous tuna melts and chocolate refrigerator cake dearly.

Private funeral services were held in honor of Shirley’s request.  She will rest in eternal peace at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.  The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the Sacred heart and Latona Home Health.

Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
