Susan Gene Cadden, 72, of Pittston, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Paul Eugene and Ann Quinn Cadden and the eldest of seven children.
Susan was a 1970 graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston, and attended East Stroudsburg University. Over the course of her life, Susan worked at RCA in Dunmore and the Women’s Resource Center in Scranton. She also owned and operated Shannon’s Sundries, a deli and convenience store in Fleetville, for over 10 years. Most recently, she served as a receptionist at Ruth’s Place in Wilkes-Barre.
Susan was a unique, loving, and profoundly generous person, truly one of a kind. A trailblazer in the women’s movement, she was also a naturalist, a student of Reiki and Reflexology, and deeply knowledgeable about natural remedies. She was a champion for the less fortunate, always ready with a sandwich, a hug, or a laugh.
Susan’s passion for animals was second only to her love for her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her sister, Ronnie Cadden, and her niece, Lea Glodzik.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Newhart, and husband, Stephen, Meshoppen; grandchildren, Stephen Newhart Jr. and Bellamy Newhart, Meshoppen; and Jourdaine Cowan (Matthew) and Sydney Newhart (Madison), both of Brooklyn, Pa. Also surviving are her former husband, Joseph “Moe” Mullarkey, Pittston; her siblings: Eugene “Gino” Cadden, Pittston; Mary Moran (Paul), Fleetville; Paula Cadden Glodzik, Duryea; Patti Yanchis (Joseph), Pittston; and Annie Loiola (Dan), Bethel, N.Y.; brothers-in-law Allan Glodzik and Scot Ahern; as well as Aunts, an Uncle and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. Interment will be private and held at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore
#Cadden
Sue and I were classmates at St John’s and friends for years. I have such fond memories of our time together including spending hours in the Cadden kitchen with the family. My sympathies are with Sue’s family, she was amazing. Here is a photo from our Senior trip to Mount Airy. ( I was the photographer)

Susan was my neighbor for a long time when I was a kid. I’m 26 now & I don’t remember exactly how we met, but our connection was so strong. She was there through a lot of bad happening in my little brother & I’s life , through my grandfather & my mother passing and she was always so positive & uplifting. I loved to help her walk her dogs and clean up, she taught me all about dousing and pressure points in your feet. I saw her a few years ago & she got to meet my son which was so amazing. I wish I got to see her one last time, she will always hold the BIGGEST place…
MY dearest friend. We shared so many conversations, laughs and smiles. I will miss her.
Over the many years I knew her, Susan never failed to greet me with a laugh and a smile. She was loyal to her friends and most importantly always remained loyal to herself in how she approached her life. I will miss her.
