John “Jack” Waters

After a brave battle with esophageal cancer, John “Jack” Waters departed this world on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017. Jack was born in Hughestown on Sept. 11, 1936 to the late Helen Rita Dougher and John Joseph Waters.

He graduated from Hughestown High School in 1954 and continued his education at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He then moved to New York where he worked and attended graduate school at NYU. From New York, he moved to Baltimore and worked at the Social Security Administration for about two years and then moved on to Washington, D.C., where he began his 25 year career at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission until retirement.

For 30 or so years, Jack was a proud member of the E.W. Douglas Chapter of the Knights of Columbus in Arlington, Va. During those years of volunteering and social activities, he made many long-standing friends. However, Jack’s heart was in Pennsylvania and he went “home” to visit at every opportunity and especially to get together with his buddies, George and Tony. In 2012, Jack and his wife, Judy, moved to Colorado to be close to their loving daughter and son-in-law.

Jack is predeceased by his two brothers, Paul and Jim “Bruse” and his dear sister, Marion.

Mourning his loss are his wife of 48 years, Judy, his daughter, Virginia, and his son-in-law Michael Aitkin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, September 21st in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston, PA at 9:00am. Funeral services will begin at 8:30am from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC., 251 William Street, Pittston, PA.

Friends may call Wednesday night from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
