It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ellen C. D’Elia, RN, 79, of Hughestown. She passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.

A lifelong resident of Hughestown, Ellen was born on July 1, 1946 to Raymond F. Ward and Miriam Davis Ward. She graduated from St. Ann’s Academy, Wilkes-Barre in 1964 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre in 1967. She worked as an ICU supervisor at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre until she retired to raise her family.
Ellen leaves us with a legacy of unwavering love and kindness that she shared with everyone who crossed her path. Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending time with them. She especially cherished time with her grandson Michael who was her pride and joy. She loved spending time at the Cottage with her family, friends, and her extended family from “The River”.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, John Merlino, Sr., sisters-in-laws, Shirley Osticco and Margaret D’Elia, her nephew, James Osticco, great-nephew, Dylan Osticco, great-niece Raeann Merlino, cousin Anne King, and Marianne Acierno, who she loved like a daughter.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 54 Years, William D’Elia, son, Russell D’Elia, Kingston, daughter, Miriam D’Elia, Hughestown, daughter Carolyn Moscatelli and her husband Lance, Hughestown, her grandson Michael Moscatelli, her sister, Ann Merlino, Hughestown, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by many cherished friends that she considered family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 11AM at Our Lady of the Eucharist, 535 N. Main St., Pittston. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church from 9AM until time of mass.
